Founded in 2016 in San Clemente, California, by husband-and-wife duo Joey Santley and Allison Singer-Santley, I-SEA started with just $60,000 and zero debt. They aimed to bridge the gap between cheap gas-station shades and $200+ luxury surf eyewear by offering trendy, polarized, premium-quality sunglasses for under $50.
Origins and Growth
Action Sports Roots: Joey and Allison met through the action sports industry. Allison spent 15 years working at the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) trade show and an East Coast sunglass company, while Joey worked with O'Neill and Mantra.
Private Label Precursor: Before launching their own brand name, they ran a successful private-label sunglass venture starting in 2016, supplying major national accounts like Anthropologie, Free People, Urban Outfitters, and Tillys.
Brand Philosophy and Culture
Coastal Vibe: Designed around West Coast surf and skate culture, the frames aim to capture a relaxed, forever-coastal aesthetic.
High Value: 90% of the collection retails below $50 while utilizing hand-polished polycarbonate, bio-based materials, and 100% UV-protected polarized lenses.
Surf Partnerships: The brand cemented its authenticity in the professional surfing world by becoming an official eyewear partner of the World Surf League (WSL) and signing elite team riders like Jack Robinson, Ivan Florence, and Cole Houshmand.
Item arrived damaged, emails and phone calls ignored.
WILL NOT BUY FROM THESE GUYS AGAIN - ordered a cap and it arrived damaged, after two emails and multiple attempted phone calls I've heard nothing back when it comes to the return. Return instructions on the website don't cover damaged items.
