Origins and the "R-Dot"
Master Shaper: Rusty Preisendorfer began shaping boards in Southern California during the 1970s, eventually gaining massive acclaim working for Canyon Surfboards.
The Breakaway: In 1985, he branched out on his own to launch Rusty Surfboards, backed by a strong backlog of core surfer orders.
The Logo: Preisendorfer created the famous "R-Dot" logo—a simple, distinct letter R with a dot—designed so young fans could easily sketch it on their school notebooks.
World Champions: Elite surfers like Mark "Occy" Occhilupo heavily fueled the brand's early credibility by shredding waves worldwide on Rusty boards.

There are no Rusty Surfboards in Australia. Only the apparel is headquartered in Australia and has never reunited. Rusty Preisendorfer stepped away, and sold the clothing in 2006. Clothing is headquartered in Australia.
