Rusty is an iconic surf and surfwear brand founded in 1985 in San Diego, California, by master surfboard shaper Rusty Surfboards creator Rusty Preisendorfer. Famous for its signature "R-Dot" logo, the brand grew from high-performance surfboard shaping into a global apparel powerhouse alongside giants like Quiksilver and Billabong during the 1990s.
Origins and the "R-Dot"
Master Shaper: Rusty Preisendorfer began shaping boards in Southern California during the 1970s, eventually gaining massive acclaim working for Canyon Surfboards.
The Breakaway: In 1985, he branched out on his own to launch Rusty Surfboards, backed by a strong backlog of core surfer orders.
The Logo: Preisendorfer created the famous "R-Dot" logo—a simple, distinct letter R with a dot—designed so young fans could easily sketch it on their school notebooks.
World Champions: Elite surfers like Mark "Occy" Occhilupo heavily fueled the brand's early credibility by shredding waves worldwide on Rusty boards.
Expansion into Surfwear
Apparel Launch: Building on massive hardware success, Rusty Australia and its international counterparts introduced full clothing lines in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Global Peak: By the mid-1990s, the label evolved into a top-tier global surfwear staple, famous for boardshorts, loud graphic tees, and fleece.
Corporate Shifts: The brand underwent structural and ownership changes in the 2000s, splitting and later reuniting its international board and apparel operations under fresh millennial and Gen Z leadership.
Modern Era
Retro Revival: The brand today leans into its rich heritage, blending Y2K aesthetic streetwear, archival revivals, and modern surf culture.

I was surprised to discover that the necklace is better than I expected
I was surprised to discover that the necklace is better than I expected. The colour, patterned style, and the tie attachment to tighten and loosen were awesome. Not seen that particular tie-up style before, but found it works better than the lobster clip style, etc. Affordable, stylish, funky, and casual. I think I will order again from this company, as it's my style. Received a few compliments on the necklace too.
Item arrived damaged, emails and phone calls ignored.
WILL NOT BUY FROM THESE GUYS AGAIN - ordered a cap and it arrived damaged, after two emails and multiple attempted phone calls I've heard nothing back when it comes to the return. Return instructions on the website don't cover damaged items.
