How changing robes should fit
A changing robe is meant to be roomy. You need space to pull your arms inside and change out of a wetsuit underneath it, and to wear it over clothes on a cold beach. So most people should buy their normal size, not a size down.
If you mainly want a robe to keep warm in and won't be changing under it, you can go one size smaller for a closer fit. White Water recommend exactly this for their Soft Shell robes.
Kids changing robes
Kids robes are cut generously so children can change inside them. Annox kids robes run large on purpose, so if your child is between sizes, go for the smaller one. Captain Fin Co youth robes suit ages 6 to 12, and the Circle One kids poncho fits roughly ages 7 to 13.
